Marion L. Gavern of Bell Mountain, a guest at Allied Skilled Nursing Center died Thursday November 23, 2017 at the center following an illness. She was the widow of John Gavern Sr.
Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Kenneth and Leona Reilly Norton. Prior to her retirement she was employed by Denny’s Restaurant and had previously worked at various area eateries.
She was a member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, Scranton, and until her illness St. Luke’s was a very big part of her life, she was a Sunday School teacher, served in the choir, Alter Guild, all fundraisers, especially the baking of Welsh Cookies.
Marion’s family would like to sincerely thank all the staff of Allied Services, especially 3-North Alzheimer’s Unit for their love and compassion toward Marion and her family for the past four and half years.
Surviving are her son John and wife Judy, Dickson City; grandchildren, Stacey Locker and husband Joe, Dunmore, John Gavern and wife Jamie, Trenton Ohio; great-grandchildren, Kelsey Gavern, Kaden Locker, Morgan Gavern, Alex Gavern, Rylee, and Bailey Strunk, all were the light of her life; sister Violet Shivokevich, Scranton; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her siblings, Ken and Clare Norton Sr., Elizabeth and Donald Beemer Sr., Ronnie and Sharon Norton Sr; many beloved nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. in St. Lukes’s Episcopal Church, 232 Wyoming Ave. Scranton, with Mother Rebecca Barnes presiding. Interment will follow at Abington Hills Cemetery. Family and friends may pay their respects Monday 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Solfanelli-Fiorillo Funeral Home Inc., 1030 N. Main Ave.
