Betty May Aukscunas, 79, of the Plot section of Scranton, died Thursday December 28, 2017, peacefully at home. She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Robert.
Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Gabriel and Agnes Montella and a 1956 graduate of West Scranton High School. She worked at the Trane Company before the birth of her children, after which she was active in the PTA, where she was a Scranton Chapter Past President, and worked at Robert Morris School. She was retired from PNC Bank after more than 20 years as Manager of the Branch Operations Bond Control Department, where she met and made many close friends.
She took great pleasure in hosting her infamous bus trips to Atlantic City, complete with raffle prizes, as well as enjoying bus trips to New York City for Broadway shows, the South Street Seaport, and the Christmas Show at Rockefeller Center. Betty May loved the beach, from annual family trips to Brigantine, New Jersey, to the rocky shores of Maine, and of course, her beloved Wildwood Crest, Cape May and Stone Harbor. She will be missed and greatly remembered for her sharp wit and sense of humor.
Surviving are two daughters, Nancy Maniscalco and son in law Mark, Phoenixville, PA; and Linda Jenkins and son in law Brad, East Garrison, California; a sister, MaryAnn Kozen, Scranton, PA; brother Francis Montella and sister in law Mary Lou, Old Forge, PA; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. The girls would like to thank her neighbors and close friends for always checking in on her.
Private funeral services will be conducted at the convenience of the family. A graveside service at Dunmore Cemetery will be announced at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Guido-Fiorillo Funeral Home 120 S. Main Ave. Scranton.
