Michael Borgia of the Providence section of Scranton, died Wednesday January 3, 2018 at home, surrounded by his loving family. His wife is the former Janet Schick, they would have celebrated their 56 wedding anniversary Jan 19th.
Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Frank and Raffaela “Fannie” Nardella Borgia; educated in Scranton Schools, he proudly served in the United States Army. Prior to his retirement he was a painting Contractor.
He loved spending time with his grandson and visiting with his brothers.
He was a longtime member of St. Anthony’s Church until its closing, now a member of Mary, Mother of God Parish at Holy Rosary Church.
Also surviving are two daughters, Janet and husband Joseph “Butch” Farino, Scranton, and Debbie Goyne and husband Michael, Archbald; Grandson, Michael Farino; five brothers, Joseph and wife Millie, Scranton, Frank and wife Nancy, Dunmore, Samuel and wife Dorothy, James and companion Sharon, Ralph and wife Mary, all of Scranton; three sisters in-law, Bess Borgia, Scranton, and Barbara Borgia, Vero Beach, Fl., and Linda Mietlicki and husband John, Clinton, CN.; several nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephew.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Anthony, Louis, Charles, and John; three sisters in-law, Marie, Phillis, and Olivia.
The funeral will be conducted on Saturday from the Solfanelli-Fiorillo Funeral Home Inc., 1030 N. Main Ave. with Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in Mary, Mother of God Parish at Holy Rosary Church, 316 William St. Interment will follow at Cathedral Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends at the funeral home Saturday morning 8:00 a.m. until 9:30 a.m.
