Paul J. “Concrete Joe” Mielo of West Scranton died Wednesday April 11, 2018 at the Gino Merli Veterans Center following an illness. His wife of 69 years is the former Jean Trovato.
Born in Scranton he was the son of the late Nicholas and Anna Striano Mielo.
Prior to his retirement he was well know in area a Master Stone Cutter, he was the only stone cutter in the local union.
He was a long-time member of St. Lucy’s Church and attended the men’s retreat for 50 years. He also attended the, Men Of Malvern Retreat for 25 years. He was a very close friend of Bill W. for 38 years.
He was dearly loved by his family and will be sadly missed.
Also surviving is a daughter, Regina Mielo, Pittston; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Ann Monecelli, Old Forge; three brothers, Michael and Joseph, both of Scranton, Anthony, Florida; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a son, Nicholas Mielo; a daughter, Paula Kraemer; siblings, Ceil Martire, Patrick, Carmen, Rose and Eva.
The funeral will be conducted on Wednesday with Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in St. Lucy’s Church, 949 Scranton St. All wishing to attend are asked to go directly to church. Interment with military honors will follow at Cathedral Cemetery. Family and friends may pay their respects Tuesday from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. in the Guido-Fiorillo Funeral Home, 120 S. Main Ave.
