Obituary for Martin Davitt

Martin   Davitt
Martin Joseph Davitt passed away unexpectedly Wednesday April 11, 2018. He is survived by the love of his life his wife the former Elaine Gilbert. Marty and Elaine would have celebrated 34 years of marriage on May 26Th.
Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Hugh R. and Sheila M. Lukowiak Davitt, He was a graduate of Scranton Technical High School class of 1976. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1977 and was stationed in Key West Florida as an engineer on the USS Pegasus.
Marty owned and operated Davitt Auto and Truck Repair, he was a master Mechanic always there willing to help anyone at any time. He was also employed by the Scranton Times prior to retirement.
He was a member of Mary, Mother of God Parish at Holy Rosary Church, St. Stephen’s Booster Club and VFW Post 2291
Also surviving are his siblings, Margaret Davitt Harris, Mt. Wolf, Andrew Davitt Esq. and wife Deb, Malvern, Pa., Sheila M. King and husband Donald, Scranton, Patricia Jones and husband Frank, Scranton, Brother in law, James Gilbert and wife Sue, Scranton;
Many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and cousins, known to them as Great Uncle Marty.
Marty was preceded in death by a sister, Anne Marie Davitt Jorbala, brother in laws, Edward Harris, Father Joseph Gilbert, and most recently his dog Coatie.
The funeral will be conducted Saturday from the Solfanelli-Fiorillo Funeral Home Inc., 1030 N. Main Ave. with Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in Mary, Mother of God Parish at Holy Rosary Church, 316 William St. All attending the funeral are kindly asked to proceed directly to church. Interment with military honors will follow at Cathedral Cemetery. Family and friends may pay their respects Friday (today) from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Mary, Mother of God Parish at Holy Rosary Church, 316 William St. Scranton, Pa. 18508.
