Mary Alfano Gilbert, 92, a lifetime resident of Scranton passed away Tuesday April 24, 2018 at Allied Skilled Nursing Center following an illness. She was the widow of William Gilbert who died January 16, 1987.
Born in Hop Bottom, she was the daughter of the late Vincent and Philomena DeRiggi Alfano.
She was a longtime devoted member of St. Lucy’s Church.
Mary’s family would like to extend a special thank you to the entire staff at Allied Services Skilled Center for the wonderful care they provided.
Surviving are two daughters, Mary Ann Orlando and husband Salvatore, Leland, NC, and Leslie Gilbert, East Haven, CT.; two grandchildren, Fabianna Orlando, Chicago, IL. and Douglas Sochovka and wife Kristle, Sterling, MA. Three great grandchildren, Nicholas, Hailey and Brooke Sochovka; a brother, John Alfano, Pittston, Pa.; special friend, Mary Ann Hayes Kucz.
She was preceded in death by a brother Anthony Alfano.
The funeral will be conducted Monday with Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in St. Lucy’s Church, 949 Scranton St. Interment at Cathedral Cemetery will be private. No public calling hours have been scheduled.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the charity of donor’s choice.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted and are under the care of the Guido-Fiorillo Funeral Home, 120 S. Main Ave.
