Obituary for Robert "Big Bob" O'Neill

Robert "Big Bob" O'Neill
Robert R. “Big Bob” O’Neill of the Marvine section of Scranton died Thursday at Allied Hospice Center. He was preceded in death by first wife, Catherine Boyle, and second wife, Arlene Cardona.
Born in Scranton, son of the late Joseph and Cassie Malinauskas O’Neill, he was educated in Scranton schools. Before retirement, he was employed as a foreman for the Trane Company in Dunmore.
Bob was an avid sportsman, enjoying hunting and fishing, and he was an avid golfer and an Indianapolis Colts fan, even after they left Baltimore. He was a Civil War buff and liked to travel with his wife, Arlene. He loved his Marvine neighborhood and was a strong supporter of North Scranton businesses. He was generous to a fault with everyone, especially to his family.
Bob’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the nurses and the entire staff at Allied Hospice and for their kind and compassionate care.
Surviving are a son, Anthony J. O’Neill, Wisconsin; a daughter, Janet A. O’Neill, Scranton; a stepdaughter, Chrissy Cardona, Scranton; a stepson, Robert Cardona, California; survived locally by grandchildren, Kelly Zdaniewicz, Nicholas Garan and Jolene Groves; and several other grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and feline friend named Opie, also known as “Puppy.”
He was also preceded in death by daughter, Cynthia Garan; grandson, Joshua Groves; son-in-law, William Garan; brother, Joseph O’Neill; and sister, Alice Warren.
A blessing service will be held Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the Solfanelli-Fiorillo Funeral Home Inc., 1030 N. Main Ave., Scranton.
Friends and family may pay their respects Tuesday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Interment in Cathedral Cemetery will be private at the convenience of the family.
